To our valued TSR community,
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of TSR winding down its publications as of 2026. The ongoing funding scarcity in Australian arts has reached crisis levels and no branch of publishing is unaffected. TSR is no exception.
As a Board we were alerted of TSR’s financial situation and have met on multiple occasions within the past few weeks to forge a path forward, and explore any possible alternatives. While TSR has received several small project grants, no operational funding has been secured and project commitments have stretched our already lean, yet passionate team, to its limits.
As Editor-in-Chief, Alison Barton, so eloquently puts it: “TSR has had a proud 14-year history and occupied an important niche in the publishing landscape that no other journal fills. We committed to helping hundreds of underrepresented and minority writers and artists get their work out there, and have celebrated doing so. There is an immense amount of under-recognised creative talent within Australia’s First Nations, regional, CALD, migrant, LGBTQIA+, and disability communities, and TSR is thrilled to have given the works a home.”
We want to thank you all for your incredible support over the years, and are doing everything we can to ensure that TSR gets the last hoorah that it deserves.
Hills Hoist Volume 5 has now been launched and can be purchased here, and our final issue #42 NOISE is set to be an incredible spotlight on First Nations talent.
