Hills Hoist Volume 3—the publication outcome from our 2023 Jumpstart a Journal workshop—is fresh, clean, and ready to show the neighbours.
Jumpstart a Journal invites aspiring and early-career publishers, editors, and designers to come together in a combination of learning and collaborative journal production. And we were able to learn from this years’ participants, too—from their diverse perspectives, fantastic ideas, and generative questions.
Hills Hoist Volume 3 is the result of their hard work together, and of contributions from 16 writers and artists. Inside, you’ll find everything from blue heelers to book knowledge, elegy to entropy, and snowfall to snorkels. After you’ve collected yourself (and your washing) from Darcie McFadyen’s charming cover, Chapter 1 invites you to approach At the Edges, with works ranging from the fantastical to the hyper-realist. Chapter 2 explores Pathways through daring prose and poetry, leading to the Exhale of Chapter 3. Stay up a little later with After Words in Chapter 4, before turning all those lights out.
