Crash

Image is a black and white sketched illustration. The first page of the comic has four panels. At the top of the page, the first panel depicts a person encountering an obstacle on the road that causes them to fall off their bike onto the pavement. The person has their arm outstretched mid-fall, as if bracing for impact. Behind them, the wall has a wash of light blue and a ripple of orange across it, drawing the reader’s attention to the impending impact. The second panel is awash with the same tone of blue, depicting the person curled up on the ground after the impact of the fall, their bike laying on top of them. The person is covering their face with their hands. The third panel depicts three people standing across the road, concerned for the main character’s fall. There is a speech bubble that reads, “Is he ok?” The fourth panel shows the main character sitting on the ground where they fell. They are giving the people standing across the road a thumbs-up. They are grimacing, forcing a smile. There is a wash of blue over part of the panel. The first page of the comic reads, “I was at the pub telling funny stories with my friends. While my wounds were fresh, I could see the humour in the situation so I shared word of my misfortune.”

Comic from The Suburban Review #41: AFTERMATH by Alexander Poljansek.
