TSR Art Editor Applications now open!

About TSR

The Suburban Review (TSR) is a socially conscious literary collective situated in Australia’s rapidly declining independent publishing landscape. Our mission is to create and contribute to a robust local publishing community by publishing writers and artists, both emerging and established, and by practising sustainable, growth-oriented publishing in our team of editors.

About the role

TSR’s Art Editor supports the Deputy Editor and Editor-in-Chief to produce quarterly issues of The Suburban Review, and grows the profile of the journal within the art community. Their duties include commissioning cover art, illustrations, and comics, giving editorial feedback and workshopping artwork development, writing alt-text and content notes, managing and growing the TSR Instagram account, and attending staff meetings.

There is also an opportunity to extend our publishing model to digital modes in 2023, utilising WordPress to deliver additional engaging new and experimental media to our subscribers.

This role is a community-focused opportunity to build and maintain strong relationships between TSR and Australian emerging artists, and simultaneously to increase local art submissions, subscriptions, and sales. It invites active and positive social media engagement, working from the successful candidate’s existing network in the visual arts. Applications from First Nations and regional arts workers are particularly welcomed.

The Art Editor is under the direction of the Editor in Chief, and commissions works alongside the Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor. Instagram duties are supported by our Social Media Manager, who directs TSR’s overall social media strategy and delivery. The role has an autonomous aspect, but also engages with the team through regular online meetings and Slack chats. We’re a friendly group of creatives who are passionate about sharing vibrant new art and literature with our audience and each other!

The role requires a commitment of approximately 3 hours per week, and is paid a quarterly honorarium of $330AUD.
