rabbits tremble under
arching roots
hide their warrens
beneath graves
ancient stone dominos
poised to collapse.
antipodean graves do not lean
they line up like
braced teeth in
a teenaged mouth;
eternal devotees of
colonial rigidity.
I tiptoe across
the iced earth
in iridescent gore-tex
I am offensively bright
and afraid
to disturb rabbits
crypt dwellers
deep in sleep.
